A federal judge ruled Friday that Arizona may not stop funding Planned Parenthood with taxpayer dollars, as a court case against a new state law proceeds.
The law, signed by Gov. Jan Brewer in May, says the state will not give any public funds to subsidize abortions, and also will not send money to help underwrite other services performed by groups that sell abortions. Planned Parenthood of Arizona filed a suit to block the law, which was set to take effect Aug. 2.
Fridays ruling essentially says that the law can’t go into effect during the course of the lawsuit, however long it lasts.
According to the Susan B. Anthony List, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin have all passed similar laws defunding Planned Parenthood.
